A Dog's World Matters

Specialising in reactive, fearful and challenging dogs in Mandurah, WA. With more than 20 years of hands-on experience working with animals, I help owners understand what is happening beneath their dog’s behaviour - not simply trying to stop the behaviour they can see. My focus is rebuilding confidence, improving communication and helping dogs learn how to cope calmly with everyday life.

Why choose me?

My experience with animal behaviour began long before I became a dog behaviourist. I spent more than 20 years working on New Zealand farms with dogs, sheep, cattle and deer. Working with animals every day taught me how to recognise the smallest changes in body language, movement, tension and pressure — often before a situation escalates. Animals communicate constantly without words. Learning to read those signals, understand how they respond to pressure and adjust my own approach has become a huge part of the way I work with dogs today. The body loads before the bark. Today, I combine that practical experience with my qualifications in dog psychology, behaviour and training.

My late Huntaway, Luke, became an important part of A Dog’s World Matters and helped many frightened and reactive dogs learn that they could safely exist around another dog. His calm nature helped shape the rehabilitation environment I continue today with carefully selected helper dogs. Every dog is different. I don’t believe in forcing every dog through the same training system, and I don’t use prong collars or shock collars as a standard solution. I look beyond the behaviour you can see to understand why it is happening, then work with the dog in front of me.

Ayla was previously attacked by two large dogs and had become very reactive to other dogs. These pictures are from her first day, as you can see, she was extremely anxious and quite distressed. After just a few hours, she began to relax and realise that she doesn't need to be fearful of all dogs.

Here Luke is being calm and gentle whilst Ayla says hello, showing her that not all dogs are scary. This slowly built her confidence.

After just two sessions with me, Ayla was happy and playing with the other dogs, which was so lovely to see!

She was even happy to pose for some group photos for the doggy mums and dads.

Highly recommended, Helen spent time with my pomeranian who has fear aggression issues and I've been too soft. Helen has such an incredible talent with dogs and there was an immediate change after just a few minutes. Helen has a wonderful nature and clearly loves dogs and knows what they need. tomorrow my wee girl is spending the day with Helen and some other dogs to learn how to be a dog. She's fantastic!!

I highly recommend using Helen to train your dog. We rehomed Winston less than 6 months ago and he came with reactivity and no recall. Helen has an amazing job, Winston is now a lot calmer easier to walk on the lead without pulling or reacting to dogs. We’re also able to let him off for runs at the beach and park. We are very happy with the outcome, it’s been a game changer for our family.
